The International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD), an international organisation with its headquarters in Vienna, Austria, is looking for qualified candidates to fill the above-mentioned position.
The project ‘Improving Migration Management in the Silk Routes Countries’ (Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Iran, Iraq and Pakistan) aims at maximising the development potential of migration and mobility within the Silk Routes region and towards major labour receiving countries. It also aims to establish comprehensive regional responses to migration and mobility with full respect of human rights and protection of migrants.
The project pursues a three tier approach: Policy dialogue at senior level which shall ensure the commitment and support for the concrete activities and objectives; a Silk Routes Facility containing a demand driven mechanism responding to the short-term technical assistance needs as well as facility for implementation of larger-scale projects; and three Flagship Initiatives, focusing on the establishment of Migrant Resource Centres (MRCs), regional law enforcement cooperation and protection of migrants’ rights.
The successful candidate will work as Country Assistant for Bangladesh within the framework of the above project and will be responsible for assisting in the preparation and organisation of project activities taking place on the ground and providing logistics and support in administrative and organisational matters. The incumbent should be a strong networker and liaise with ease with partners and collaborators in an international environment.
The Country Assistant reports to the Country Coordinator based in Dhaka and coordinates day-to-day work with responsible project teams.
Duties and Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Country Coordinator, the incumbent will be responsible for the following tasks:
- Assists the Country Coordinator in the organisation and implementation of the activities taking place on the ground;
- Provides support in all administrative and organisational matters;
- Supports the logistics of activities including the identification and organisation of venue, accommodation, travel and transportation, translation/interpretation as well as necessary audio/visual equipment;
- Maintains the day-to-day communication with national stakeholders and partners in view of the event organisation;
- Assists experts, primarily short-term experts (STEs), in their work (logistics and organisation of meetings, visits, etc.);
- Assists in preparation of reports; collects and structures data;
- Assists in the preparation of speeches and presentations (using different presentation tools, such as PowerPoint and Prezi) for conferences and other events when needed;
- Performs any other duties as required.
Essential Qualifications
Education:
- University degree (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in business administration, international relations/administration or related field.
Experience:
- A minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience, preferably at international level.
Knowledge, skills, abilities:
- Excellent and proven organisational skills and attention to detail;
- Experience in procurement and/or travel management, preferably in an international setting;
- High flexibility, ability to work under time pressure, to prioritise multiple tasks and meet deadlines;
- Ability to work effectively with colleagues from different cultural and professional backgrounds.
- Understanding of migration issues would be an asset;
- Excellent knowledge of Bengali;
- Excellent oral and written command of English;
- Proficiency in Microsoft office applications, particularly Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Prezi including different presentation tools.
