Bangladesh: Bangladesh Country Director

We are seeking a dynamic, high energy, entrepreneurial individual who can lead the organisations programme in Bangladesh and to explore opportunities within the region.

Based in United Purpose’s main country office in Banani, Dhaka, the Country Director’s role is an interesting and challenging one. Leading a team of approximately 46 people, he/she will build on the progress made during the past decade. The country programme is at an important stage in its development with a number of exciting innovations ongoing and considerable scope for further programme development.

Accountabilities:

Strategic Leadership
•To ensure the strategic direction and programme implementation is aligned with the country’s critical development issues and UP global strategy; mission and values.
•To proactively participate as a member of the global leadership team through involvement in the South Asia cluster development and management.
•To ensure highest quality MEL and time for reflection and learning is woven through all activities and ensuring best practices are shared/learned from across UP country programmes.
•To promote a culture of innovation and managed risk.

Business Development
•To build strong relationships/partnerships with both traditional and creative donors including Institutional, Corporate, Trusts and Foundations.
•Securing Funding to enable programme growth and innovation.

Grant Management
•Ensuring all contractual obligations are met. Financial and Staff Management
•Ensuring a high performing team and value for money.
•Ensuring safety and security of all staff
•Ensuring all global standards/policies and procedures are met.

Person Specification:

Qualifications
•Relevant Master’s level qualification or similar academic achievement.

Required Skills and Experience
•Commitment to the values and mission of United Purpose.
•At least 5 years in a Country Director or Regional Director role or other senior level leadership/management in an INGO environment
•Proven ability to secure funding from a variety of donors including institutional, corporates, private sector contractors/fund managers, trusts and foundations.
•Proven ability to effectively manage a variety of grant types (e.g. commercial, accountable grants)
•Proven ability to pilot innovations and scale up effective programming initiatives
•An entrepreneurial mindset with a strong desire to innovate
•Management of programming in diverse sectors including demonstrated commitment to community-led development and capacity building of local institutions based on mutual respect and a partnership approach.
•High energy, an individual who thrives on rapid pace/high workload.
•Exceptional communication (especially in written English) and team-working skills, with the ability to build good relations, both internally and externally.
•Solid understanding of complex financial management.
•Fluent written & spoken English.
•Willingness to work in challenging security contexts.

Desirable Skills & Experience
•Experience in Disaster Risk Reduction and/or Sustainable Livelihoods.
•Experience in Disaster Management.
•Experience in South Asia.
•Experience of working with the EU, including DIPECHO & ECHO
•Experience with development of social businesses/enterprises
