We are seeking an exceptional Head of Programmes and Initiatives to lead and co-ordinate a wide range of Health and Education projects for our client, a leading philanthropic Foundation in Gabon.

The post would suit a candidate with substantial experience in this sector who is passionate about working for an organisation which delivers long lasting positive change through a wide range of high quality Health and Education initiatives. These programmes focus on the needs of the most vulnerable and fragile members of the community, providing treatment and after care for women and children cancer patients; HIV education programmes; mobility and rehabilitation schemes for the disabled and education programmes for vulnerable young offenders.

The Head of Programmes and Initiatives will lead the operational management of humanitarian projects and initiatives and take responsibility for ensuring the development, implementation and action plans of programmes in line with the strategic vision, objectives and values of the Foundation. He/she will contribute significantly to a coherent , effective strategy around key initiatives that includes advisory services to the Head of the Foundation; participation in international conferences; budget management; monitoring and evaluation of projects; maintaining and developing relationships with key national and global players and sponsors; scientific and technical partners which include the Red Cross, WHO and NGOs.

The Person

  • Well-qualified graduate with at least 5 years’ relevant professional experience including managing high impact, effective projects and initiatives for a similar humanitarian/philanthropic organisation and ideally, programmes for Africa
  • Ability to analyse information, evaluate options and to think and plan strategically
  • Proven ability to represent the organisation to donors and other stakeholders , particularly Solidarités Internationales
  • Ability to write clear and well‐argued assessment and project reports
  • Proven experience in effective team building and in internal communication
  • Experience of managing ongoing, multi-year programmes
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Versatile, adaptable, well-honed diplomatic skills, unflappable with 'can-do’ attitude
  • Collaborative and consultative leadership style; a team player able to work independently and remain calm when under pressure
  • A proficient user of MS software
  • Bi-lingual French and English
  • A genuine interest in the mission and values of the Foundation and a real desire to making a difference in Africa.
