Bangladesh: Community Services Officer (national contract)

Danish Refugee Council, an international humanitarian NGO, is currently looking for highly qualified Community Services Officers for its operations in Bangladesh, based in Cox’s Bazar/Kutupalong.

About the job

Under the supervision of the Community Services Manager and in close coordination with Site Management and other DRC field units, the Community Services Officer will develop and maintain good relations with the refugee population and develop effective community engagement and participation mechanisms to support refugees to take an active role in all aspects of life within the site.

The main responsibilities of the position include:

  • Develop and maintain constructive and cooperative working relationships with the refugee population, their community representatives, and other stakeholders in the site.
  • Develop and support representative committees and community groups, including through facilitating the formation of new groups, coordinating meetings and workshops, and implementing training.
  • Facilitate and report on Focus Group Discussions to identify the needs of the refugees.
  • Assist in the planning and development of community engagement and social cohesion activities, events and initiatives.
  • Train, mentor and support community groups to take leadership on activities and representative committees including the organization of recreational/ cultural activities
  • Support effective communication and information-sharing to refugees, including providing information on services, activities and events in the site.
  • Collect information on gaps in services and key insights into social, cultural needs of refugees
  • Participate in developing and implementing awareness raising sessions and information campaigns.
  • Through all activities, encourage the active participation of women, PSNs (persons with specific needs) and other less represented groups.
  • Support and train a network of refugee volunteers who will work undertake daily tasks in the camp
  • Prepare reports on the results of activities, as requested.
  • Undertake any other duties as may be assigned by the Community Services Manager.

About you

To be successful in this role we expect the following:

  • 1 years’ experience working with an (I)NGO in a formal or informal camp setting
  • Experience in Communications or Social Services is desirable
  • Willingness to live and work in a challenging environment with limited resources
  • Fluency in English, Chittagonian and/or Rohingya.

We offer

Location: Cox’s Bazar/Kutupalong

Start date: as soon as possible

Contract length: 3 months

Salary and conditions will be in accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for National Staff in Bangladesh.
