NRC in Bangladesh
NRC's core objective in Bangladesh is to respond to the Rohingya refugee crisis. One million refugees are expected to cross the border from Myanmar before the start of 2018. NRC will provide humanitarian assistance to the most vulnerable and hardest to reach, and include host communities to reduce the risk of inter-communal conflict. NRC plans to focus its response in three critical areas of need: Education in Emergencies, Site Management and distribution of non food items (NFIs).
In antcipation of the Government's approval of NRC's registration application, we are seeking an Interim Country Director for Bangladesh. While waiting for the registration process to finalise, NRC will implement projects through partnerships, with ongoing capacity building activities provided by NRC as well as direct implementation once the registration is obtained.
About the position
The purpose of the Interim Country Director position is to have the overall responsibility for the country operation in Bangladesh, including:
- National representation and coordination
- Development and execution of country strategy
- All in-country activities, personnel and the Country Management Group (CMG)
- Safety and security of all staff
- Country level advocacy
- Resource allocation and mobilization
- Cost efficiency and quality, including implementation of control mechanisms
- Adequate country structures and systems
- Learning, training and development of all staff, including a strategy for national staff development
- Compliance and adherence to NRC policies, guidance and procedures
The Interim Country Director reports to the Regional Director for Asia Europe.
Qualifications
• Minimum 5 years experience from working as a Senior Manager/Country Director in humanitarian/recovery context
• Experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
• Documented/proven results related to the position’s responsibilities
• Knowledge about own leadership skills/profile
• Fluency in English, both written and verbal
• Valid driver’s license
We offer
Commencement: March 2018
Contract period: 12 months
Salary/benefits: According to NRC’s international general directions (see attached Salary Scale)
Duty station: Dhaka, Bangladesh, with travels to Cox Bazar
