Chemonics seeks a senior reading specialist for the anticipated five-year USAID - Bangladesh Shekhar Jonno Pori ("Read to Learn") activity. The primary purpose of the activity is to provide direct technical assistance to the Bangladeshi government and its sector-wide Fourth Primary Education Development Program (PEDP4), schools, and teachers to improve early grade reading outcomes. The technical assistance will include training services; provision and dissemination of goods, such as teaching and learning materials; and national and subnational assessment design and implementation. The activity will foster partnerships between schools and families to enhance opportunities for children to read outside of school and in the home. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.
Responsibilities include:
- Provide overall technical oversight and guidance to the program on learning and reading instruction
- Supervise the production of all program-supported reading material, teaching-methodology improvement, teacher training, teacher and classroom supervision and monitoring, and student-testing efforts
- Ensure complementarity of activity approaches to improving early grade reading
- Liaise between government representatives at various levels on technical matters
- Collaborate with other senior specialists to achieve expected results
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in education, linguistics, early grade reading, or a relevant field required; doctorate in education preferred
- Familiarity with USAID tools and methodologies to improve education outcomes preferred
- At least five years of experience in programs that work specifically to improve early grade reading
- Experience developing early grade reading materials, training programs, classroom monitoring protocols, and tests and assessments, including the Early Grade Reading Assessment
- Strong understanding of the development and education issues in Bangladesh
- Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
- Fluency in English required; fluency in Bengali a plus
