Refusing to ignore people in crisis
The British Red Cross (BRC) have an exciting new opportunity for a Hygiene Promoter to join our team based in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh.
This role will work under the direct supervision of the BRC Programme Manager and alongside the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) and International Federation of Red Cross Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) staff to deliver an appropriate faecal sludge management (FSM) intervention that meets the needs of the affected population in Cox's Bazar.
The Hygiene Prompter will be responsible for the quality implementation of all BRC hygiene promotion activities, with two objectives: a) to address priority public health risks of the population living in the camps, and b) to complement physical sanitation interventions (including latrine building and reinforcing, latrine emptying and faecal sludge treatment).
With the onset of the monsoon season, the Hygiene Promoter may experience significant adaptations to both working environment and the activities required of them. If rains, landslides, disease outbreaks or cyclonic events create a secondary emergency within the camps, the Hygiene may be required to deprioritise standard activities in order to support the response.
To be successful in this role you must have experience in:
Extensive experience of implementing community-based water, sanitation and/or hygiene programmes in the humanitarian sector Demonstrating capacity to (engage effectively with local partners) with ability to provide formal and informal training Delivering programmes in a complex working environment Solid understanding of the international humanitarian sector with a focus on integrated programming, participatory planning, and local institution capacity building Financial management and budgeting Capacity building and organisational development of partner organisations
