About the Rohingya Refugee Response Programme
It is now one year since over 700,000 Rohingya people from Myanmar fled to Bangladesh in what is now one of the world’s largest humanitarian crisis. Oxfam has humanitarian operations on both sides of this crisis. In Bangladesh, Oxfam is providing vital aid including clean water, toilets, washing facilities, fresh food, clothing, lighting alongside hygiene promotion and protection activities, with a special focus on women, for 266,000 Rohingya refugees, with a plan to reach 300,000 people by the end of 2018. The response has focused on access to clean water, sanitation and hygiene promotion as well as gender equality and protection activities.
The Role
Oxfam GB is looking for an experienced humanitarian protection expert. The role is based in Uhkia - Cox’s Bazar in Bangladesh, with a focus on the humanitarian response. The Protection Team Leader will support and lead the implementation of Oxfam protection activities in Balukhali camps and provide technical guidance to other sectoral teams in applying safe-programming standards in their activities, throughout the programme cycle.
About the person
We are looking confident and motivated self-starter with proven experience in leading and managing protection work. Strong conceptual and practical understanding of protection issues and approaches in humanitarian contexts, including the constraints, sensitivities and risks associated with such work.
Proven involvement in humanitarian response work, preferably in a humanitarian or protection role in conflict or insecure environments and Strong understanding of protection standards, key sectoral issues and processes including advocacy for protection. Demonstrable understanding of the gender dynamics of protection work and ability to implement protection activities with an emphasis on the gendered aspects of conflict, violence and abuse.
