In emergency setting, Plan is promoting gender responsive child protection in emergencies (including gender based violence), education in emergencies, and youth economic empowerment.

The Role

This exciting position will serve as Plan International Asia Region's primary support function to our Country Offices on issues relating to Emergency Preparedness and Response. Reporting to the Asia Head of DRM, this post will support to strengthen the disaster preparedness and response throughout Asia through the overseeing the achievement of Country Offices Disaster Preparedness Plan (DPP) action plans, conducting regular analysis of disaster trends in the region, and managing the emergency response data base in Asia.

This post holder will also get the opportunity to deploy to country offices, as the need arises, to provide technical expertise in key areas which in addition to standard ERM work, will include among others Child Protection in Emergencies and Education in Emergencies (EiE)

The DRM Specialist will also get to serve as thematic leads for different humanitarian sectors in addition to the geographical responsibilities.

This is position is truly a challenging and exciting post, which will serve the post holder well both in the present and the future.

Key requirements for this post include:

  • Being dynamic and energetic
  • The willingness to take on difficult challenges
  • Experience from disaster risk management work, including disaster preparedness and managing response programmes
  • Experience from at least 2 major disaster events, working in “disaster /high risk” environments
  • Experience as a trainer/facilitator on humanitarian issues especially on international standard and CPiE and EiE
  • Ability to priorities and manage complex and varied workload, often to tight deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal in order to present arguments clearly and powerfully to a variety of audiences;
  • Direct experience of working with children and young people and in understanding and responding to their needs and rights
  • Experience of working with institutional donors/fundraisers
  • Experience of promoting coordination and cooperation with other agencies through networking and alliance building.
  • Ability to travel 50 to 60 percent of the time
