Active in more than 45 countries, Tdh works with local and international partners to develop and implement field projects which improve the daily lives of over 3 million children and their relatives, in the domains of health, protection and emergency relief. This engagement is financed by individual and institutional support, with administrative costs kept to a minimum.
Context :
Some 270,000 people have fled Rakhine state in Myanmar to Bangladesh following an eruption of violence on 25th of August. The Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA), an Islamic insurgent group, launched multiple attacks on government posts in Rakhine state, and Myanmar security forces then launched counter attacks causing mass displacement. An estimated 400,000 Rohingya are still trapped in conflict zones of Rakhine state, where needs are unknown and access virtually impossible. In Bangladesh, the sudden influx, on top of an existing crisis, means needs are high. In addition to the 270,000 who have fled so far, a further 40,000 are stranded in an accessible area near the border after being stopped by border guards.
The WASH project manager is responsible for the overall management and development of WASH activities implemented in Cox’s Bazar. He/She ensures the monitoring of qualitative and operational aspects of the delegation’s programs in Bangladesh on a day-to-day basis. He/She guarantees the smooth functioning of the bases.
Responsibilities :
Supervise and train the field teams.
Ensure decisions and actions are taken in the area of intervention and deal with them independently on a daily basis in consultation with the sector coordinator and the Country Representative.
Ensure that the outcomes of the project are achieved.
Conduct technical and social feasibility studies.
Make sure technological solutions are proposed which are suitable for the capabilities of the beneficiary populations (take into account the disabled, elderly people and children, etc.).
Be responsible for the implementation of action plans and budget monitoring.
Comply with the Tdh WASH standards and the international standards (SPHERE, minimum standards, etc.) and those of the country.
Act as the link/the synergy between the WASH project and the other projects developed within the delegation.
Build up the expertise in this field of intervention.
Collaborate and coordinate with the DI (for emergencies) and the thematic advisors at headquarters to develop and validate the thematic strategy in line with the Tdh strategic commitments, and conduct advocacy and strategic capitalization actions.
Profile :
University degree in relevant field such as hydrology, hydraulic, geology, civil engineering, or environmental engineering.
Excellent oral and writing skills in English (C2).
At least 2 years previous experience in humanitarian project co-ordination.
Experience in emergency WASH activities implementation.
Good interpersonal and communication skills.
Experience in expatriate team management.
Availability for a departure as soon as possible or at latest mid-april 2019.
Salary :
Expatriate contract under Swiss labor code 2’950 CHF (~2’550 €) < > 4'300 CHF (~3’700 €) net /month according to experience x 13, Holidays: 25 days per year. Local accommodation and transportation, Health insurance, accident and medical repatriation insurance, return flight.
