We are currently recruiting for a Chief of Party (COP) for an upcoming USAID-funded project in Bangladesh. The goal of the upcoming project is to strengthen nutrition leadership at the national and subnational level for improved multi-sectoral nutrition service delivery and coordination for accelerated progress in addressing both over and under nutrition. Key objectives will include: the ability to test and demonstrate effective, affordable multi-sectoral nutrition models, targeting the first 1,000 days; increase access for individuals/households to affordable nutritious food, clean water, sanitation, healthcare and social protection; as well as adopt practices that contribute to good nutrition such as increased consumption of diverse, nutrient dense foods, and exclusive breastfeeding in the first six months of life.

The COP will be responsible for providing technical leadership and overall management direction for the project. S/he is also responsible for project inputs, program strategy, external representation and coordination with project counterparts, USAID, the Government of Bangladesh, other donors within the sector and other programs as necessary. The COP is ultimately responsible for compliance with the agreement results and the oversight of project activities which will meet the stated objectives of the project.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities and Impact

  • Lead the project’s strategic, financial, and operational planning, including the annual work planning process and development of an appropriate exit strategy
  • Oversee the timely submission of all deliverables to USAID
  • Supervise all program staff and oversee the hiring process of local personnel.
  • Provide overall coordination of the institutional/organizational capacity building of local NGOs and other key stakeholders
  • Fully inform Save the Children’s home/field office on all matters relating to the project, and maintain appropriate links with partner home/field offices
  • Ensure that efficient systems to support all aspects of the project (including sub-grant management, financial, capacity building and performance monitoring and reporting) are in place and support the effective use of project resources in compliance with USAID regulations and Save the Children policies
  • Represent the project with USAID, the Government of Bangladesh, donors, and partners

Required Background and Experience, Skills and Behaviors

  • Advanced degree in Public Health, Nutrition, Health Sciences or similar area is required
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience of high-level management of projects and staff
  • Experience in, and a deep understanding of nutrition, infant and young child feeding (IYCF), WASH and other areas related to community health, including the key drivers of under nutrition, malnutrition, and stunting
  • Knowledge and experience in planning, implementing and monitoring activities related to community mobilization and development
  • Demonstrated ability to advise host country officials at the ministerial level, and create and maintain effective working relationships with international and local stakeholders, NGOs, local partners, and U.S. Government agencies
  • Prior experience as a Chief of Party or Deputy Chief of Party strongly desired
  • Strong planning budgeting, implementation and monitoring skills
  • Excellent staff management and interpersonal skills; strong sense of teamwork
  • Significant understanding of gender roles in communities, particularly as they related to nutrition, WASH and health in general
  • Significant understanding of the main concepts around food and nutritional security and how these relate to household nutritional outcomes for pregnant women and young children
  • Understanding of the Bangladeshi Ministry of Health’s key policies, norms, practices and structures related to nutrition and WASH
  • Availability and commitment to travel as needed
  • High personal standards of implementation excellence; be self-motivated, creative, energetic and resourceful
  • Excellent level of written and spoken English language skills and strong representation skills
  • High capacity to generate quality reports, spreadsheets and presentations
  • Strong skills and desire to work successfully as part of a team
