SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Regional Director, the Chief of Party will oversee all in-country operations for current Internews programming in Bangladesh, in addition to working with Bangkok and DC-based HQ staff to expand the Bangladesh portfolio.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following, other duties may be assigned:
- Manages the set-up and day-to-day running of projects, including recruiting, hiring, managing and training local staff, liaising with agencies, INGOs and local leadership structures;
- Oversees all aspects of project implementation, including tracking of budgets, subgrants/contract, and monitoring and evaluation requirements in coordination with Internews HQ;
- Manages Internews Bangladesh’s coordination with relevant authorities on INGO registration processes and permissions for individual program activities; regularly reports registration updates to Internews regional and HQ offices;
- Ensures timely and high-quality submissions of quarterly reporting as required by the donor (includes writing and editing);
- Liaises with Internews administration and control staff in the US on all contracts, subgrants, procurement and payments;
- Oversees the development of annual operation budgets in coordination with the development of the annual implementation plan;
- Represents Internews in Bangladesh with donors and at various conferences/events when required;
Leads project design efforts in country;
Cultivates and strengthens relationships with local partner organizations and ensures that implementation is responsive to the needs of partners and beneficiaries;
Maintains strategic awareness of independent media issues in Bangladesh and the broader region (especially broadcast and new media), and a general understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing independent media;
Builds proactive relationships with potential donors in country in order to solicit new fundraising opportunities;

QUALIFICATIONS

- Minimum seven years’ combined experience in journalism and/or managing development projects
- Long-term, overseas media development experience preferably in the Bangladesh
- At least seven years’ combined experience and progressive responsibility managing complex projects and large teams of staff
- Proven ability to successfully manage complex projects remotely (the position is based in Dhaka, while some project activities occur in Cox’s Bazar)
- Experience leveraging other sources of funding to advance programmatic objectives
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Experience in designing and leading projects, including budget management, reporting and M&E
- Proven ability to develop and monitor work plans and training plans
Knowledge of, and proven experience in, budget management, projections and grant management
Proficient in MS Office
Ability to prioritize and handle multiple on-going assignments
Ability to adjust to shifting political circumstances and create programming accordingly
Relevant university degree required
Local language skills required
