Reports to: Program Director and Overall Executive Director

Grade: International Volunteer

Duty Station: Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh

Duration and type of contract: 12 months with 3 month probation period (Renewable, pending funding availability)

CSI Organizational Profile

Center for Social Integrity (CSI) is a non-religious, non-political, non-profit organization established in 2016 to respond to the need for Myanmar people to strengthen and promote a culture of social cohesion, peace building, protection and ability to tackle humanitarian crisis. It later expanded to Bangladesh and broadened its scope to include the plight of refugee communities outside of Myanmar.

The CSI-Bangladesh mission was launched in September 2017 in response to the influx of Rohingya refugees into Cox’s Bazar District and currently encompasses projects focused on community-based protection and education. Programmatic activities rely upon CSI’s network of 74 refugee volunteers who spearhead implementation of projects supporting the rehabilitation and resilience of Rohingya refugees.

Job purpose

The Role

In coordination with Yangon Head Office, and under the direct supervision of CSI’s Program Director as well as in close coordination with officer in Charge Bangladesh, support in developing, overseeing and strengthening the programs by planning, implementing and monitoring the activities in the field.

· Support CSI’s Senior Management Team in developing CSI’s short and long-term program strategy in Bangladesh.

· Monitor political, economic and social landscape of Bangladesh to adequately support in adjusting CSI’s strategy.

· Assist CSI’s Program Director in Bangladesh to ensure that all the projects are implemented according to CSI’s strategies, procedures and guidelines.

Duties and Responsibilities

Project planning and project management

• Plan the activities by:

o Participating in the development of project’s proposals.

o Establishing the work plan, in strong coordination with the field team and the Operations.

o Sharing duties and responsibilities among team members, and establishing reporting channels and tools (template, formats).

o Preparing the procurement plan with the Operations and ensuring that PRs and recruitment requests are raised on-time.

o Assist in developing job descriptions for programs staff.

o Assist in liaising with governmental and non-governmental partners for communicating about the activities, getting authorisations and avoiding overlaps.

o Ensuring proper communication, at Program level, with BASTOB counterparts.

• Under the supervision of the Program Director, oversee the daily implementation of the activities by:

o Providing mentoring and supervision to the program team.

o Meeting with staff, volunteers and beneficiaries in the field.

o Observing the implementation of the activities and providing advices and guidance for improvements.

o Taking responsibility for management of the program’s related budget.

o Ensuring that activities are implemented as per workplan; updating the workplan when necessary.

o Ensuring the effective planning and implementation of the different phases of the project cycle in accordance with CSI’s Project Management Guideline, and with timeframe and targets defined in the project proposal.

o Supervising for the effective delivery of trainings and utilization of project materials.

• If any delay is to happen in workplan, inform the PD and ED. If this change has to impact the budget or the objectives or the targets, prepare a change request form and make propositions to get the project back on track.

• In strong coordination with HR, take responsibility for program’s staff management. Establish individual objectives for each of them and follow-up on the achievements of these objectives. Assist the team members to identify and overcome their difficulties.

MEAL

• In coordination with HQ’s MEAL Department, participate in defining realistic objectives and targets for the activities, assist the development of logframes, and introduce these logframes to the respective projects’ teams.

• Ensure that templates used to collect information are consistent with requirements in terms of reporting and with the indicators sought to be measured as per logframe. Liaise with HQ’s MEAL department to ensure that utilized formats allow reporting on indicators.

• Monitoring day-to-day progress toward project goals and desired programmatic outcomes.

• Ensure that the staff in charge of monitoring the activities have enough support, guidance and understanding of his/her tasks.

• Facilitate smooth collaboration with the coordination team in Yangon and ensure that required documents are shared on time.

Coordination and representation

• Represent CSI in coordination forum as requested by the Officer in Charge.

• Assist in the planning and hosting of program visits by CSI staff, donors and partner agencies.

Reporting

• Submit monthly progress report including activities, work done, challenges, expenses and financial situation to the Program Director, and the Executive Director.

• Report on emergency incidences, occurrences without delay to the Program Director and the ED.

• Work closely with the Program Director and CSI Head Office and provide facts/data/findings and narratives to participate in donor’s reporting.

• Establish appropriate internal reporting formats and ensure effective internal information flows.

• Ensuring that lessons learnt are well documented and transparent.

• Liaise with CSI Head Office, including Communication Officer, to ensure that required general program and country data is communicated effectively, be it for Sitrep, for CSI’s newsletter or for any other purpose as per request. Collect success stories and share them with the Communication Officer in Yangon.

Qualifications

  • Graduate degree in international relations, development studies, peace studies, international law, political science or a related field.
  • 1 to 2 years of relevant experience in peace building, political or developmental work. Field experience is a major advantage.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.
  • Good research and organisational skills.
  • Strong interest in and knowledge of peace building, human rights, protection, post-conflict settings.
  • Sound judgement, discretion, resourcefulness and good interpersonal skills are prized attributes.
  • Ability to take initiative and work within deadlines.
