USAID Bangladesh plans to support a five year Feed the Future multi-sectoral nutrition program that will sustainably improve household nutrition through dietary diversity resulting in reduced childhood stunting. The program will build upon knowledge gained through previous pilot activities and will support on-going Global Health, Feed the Future and Food for Peace programs and is designed to tackle nutrition challenges in Bangladesh’s rural populations. Primary objectives will include: improved nutrition of children under the age of five, pregnant and lactating women and adolescents; increased availability of and access to foods rich in micronutrients and protein; and adoption of improved WASH practices. Market systems based approaches both on the input and output sides will be incorporated to support overall success and sustainability of the program.
Position Summary:
ACDI/VOCA is seeking a highly qualified Deputy Chief of Party for this anticipated USAID Feed the Future Nutrition funded activity in Bangladesh. It is expected to be a five-year program in the $10-$25-million USD range. The Deputy Chief of party will serve as a key member of the program technical and leadership teams and is specifically responsible for developing and delivering market system based interventions that will improve the agricultural and food security of rural households. This will be achieved by sustainably improving nutrition and reducing poverty through the integration of agriculture, nutrition and related market systems. The program will improve nutritional status, especially among women and children, and support related strategic value chain capacity development and investments.
Responsibilities:
Serve as a key member of the leadership team in guiding the effective implementation and achievement of program objectives and goals.
Provide technical leadership, oversight and capacity development in establishing ACDI/VOCA’s nutrition focused market system activities.
Analyze all aspects of relevant agricultural market systems related to both input supply and marketing of targeted nutrition dense crops, animal and/or aquaculture production.
Address priorities related to productivity increases of nutrient rich foods that diversify diets, support positive changes in household nutrition and establish market links to both encourage and support continued production.
Develop opportunities to improve agriculture trade related to nutrition dense foods.
Advise on access to credit and other agricultural trade issues.
Provide advice and counsel on relevant Bangladeshi agriculture policies.
Serve as ACDI/VOCA’s project representative during the duration of this assignment.
Ensure quality control and timeliness of all deliverables.
Contribute to creation of workplans and periodic written program reports.
Ensure productive relationships with the Prime implementer and donor.
Minimum Qualifications:
Relevant Bachelor degree required plus five to ten years of prior work experience in international development or related field, including at least five years of work experience in the agriculture trade and rural development sector.
Prior management (key staff) work experience required.
Experience working with agricultural market systems, value chains, rural producers and farmers’ associations and applied knowledge of nutrition sensitive production approaches.
Comprehensive knowledge of agriculture trade programs and policies, agriculture trade and food policies, land tenure, and macroeconomic, legal, and policy framework as related to agriculture trade development.
Knowledge of Bangladeshi agriculture trade policies and laws preferred.
Fluency in English is required.
