Emergency Response Coordinator (m/f)
in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh
The position is to be filled as soon as possible, with an initial contract duration until May 31, 2018. There are prospects for an extension. The place of work will be Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh (BD). Taking the security situation into account, travel for work will be required.
The aim of this position is to support the Welthungerhilfe response for the Rohingya refugees together with our local partner organisation ANANDO in Bangladesh.
Your responsibilities
- Coordinate the emergency response in Cox’s Bazar together with our local partner ANANDO
- Serve as focal point for press and media related requests in German and English
- Re-assess ANANDO’s capacity to respond to emergencies and their emergency response capacity where required
- Support and assist ANANDO with participation in humanitarian coordination mechanisms and with activity planning for the Rohingya emergency response
- Initiate and carry out emergency assessments in order to better comprehend context, priorities, constraints and population needs
- Ensure cross-cutting issues like gender, HIV, (child) protection, vulnerable groups are mainstreamed in emergency programming
- Ensure emergency programming is in line with the Core Humanitarian Standards and SPHERE Standards
- Interact with Alliance 2015 partners to maximize allocation of available resources like shared warehousing, emergency stocks etc. if and when applicable
- Ensure application and compliance of security protocols and policies and monitor the security situation
Your profile
- A university or polytechnic degree in humanitarian aid or qualifications commensurate with this position
- Minimum of 3 years experience in the field of humanitarian assistance, emergency response, forced displacements, preferably in Bangladesh
- Proven experience in conducting rapid assessments for multiple sectors, with a particular focus on WASH, Shelter/NFI, Food Security and Nutrition, Protection
- Familiarity with the humanitarian coordination structures
- Ability to plan and organize work even under a heavy workload and while working in a stressful environment
- Ability to write clear and concise reports and project proposals and to work independently with limited supervision
- Fluency in both oral and written German and English is essential
