Essential Job Duties/Scope of Work:International Medical Corps is a global, humanitarian, nonprofit organization dedicated to saving lives and relieving suffering through health care training and relief and development programs.
Established in 1984 by volunteer doctors and nurses, International Medical Corps is a private, voluntary, nonpolitical, nonsectarian organization. Its mission is to improve the quality of life through health interventions and related activities that build local capacity in underserved communities worldwide. By offering training and health care to local populations and medical assistance to people at highest risk, and with the flexibility for rapid response to emergencies. International Medical Corps rehabilitates devastated health care systems and helps bring them back to self-reliance.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Project Management:

  • Overall responsibility for the day-to-day management of nutrition staff and health facility- based and community-based IYCF-E and CMAM activities
  • Provide technical guidance on IYCF-E and CMAM to support staff (IYCF-E, CMAM, health, CP and others as necessary) and MoH and other humanitarian actors as necessary to promote consistent good practice;
  • Ensure all staff understand and implement program guidelines for protection and support of optimal IYCF practices and management of acute malnutrition;
  • Ensure appropriate and consistent messaging to mothers, other caregivers and the community at all programming contact points (e.g. child friendly centers, clinics, distributions) and in the community
  • Facilitate the development and scheduling of outreach activities
  • Develop monthly work plans and supervision schedules
  • Develop monitoring and evaluation mechanisms for IYCF-E and CMAM programs
  • Compile monthly activity reports and donor reports as required

Training and Capacity Building:

  • Conduct orientations and trainings to build the capacity of staff/volunteers, MoH staff and the community at large.
  • Mentor senior national staff in all aspects of nutrition program management

Assessment:

  • Conduct nutritional surveys and rapid assessment planning, implementation, analysis, interpretation and reporting, as required

Advocacy and Communication:

  • Facilitate cross-sectoral programming, particularly to promote excellent communication and referral between IYCF-E, CMAM, and other sectoral programming;
  • Participate actively in relevant internal and external sectoral coordination meetings;
  • Liaise with other humanitarian actors, local authorities, ministries and the military to maximize collaboration and ensure proper coordination of activities and agreed protocols;
  • Undertake local and national level advocacy targeting other humanitarian actors, local authorities, ministries and the military as appropriate,

Program development:

  • Work closely with the Country Directors and technical staff to provide input into program development and country level strategies as required.
  • Additionally, the Nutrition Advisor will be responsible for supporting new initiatives (e.g. Blanket Supplementary Feeding, Micronutrient Supplementation….)

Compliance & Ethics

Promotes and encourages a culture of compliance and ethics throughout International Medical Corps. As applicable to the position, maintains a clear understanding of International Medical Corps’ and donor compliance and ethics standards and adheres to those standards.Conducts work with the highest level of integrity. Communicates these values to staff and to partners and requires them to adhere to these values. Qualifications:

  • University degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition, or other relevant health field
  • 5 years’ experience with in the implementation and management of nutrition programs (including Community-based Management of Acute Malnutrition; IYCF; etc) in emergencies.
  • Prior capacity building/training experience essential
  • Excellent communication skills essential
  • Prior experience in surveys (SMART, IYCF-E, etc) an asset
  • Ability to create solutions or responses to problems in an autonomous way
  • Proven ability to work independently and in insecure areas
  • High level of English written and oral communication essential
