The role

We are currently looking for Health Outbreak Response Manager (Epidemiology / Information Management) to be based in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh.

Role Purpose

CONTEXT:

Since August 25th there has been a mass exodus of the Rohingya population from the violence in Myanmar into Bangladesh. Around 750K people have now crossed the border. Informal camp setting with minimal access to clean water, sanitation and basic health services, leading to a very high risk of public health crisis. The EHU are supporting the provision of a basic package of health services for most vulnerable refugee and host populations.

The response will also include cholera prevention, and preparedness so as to respond in the event of an outbreak. Currently there is an ongoing outbreak of diphtheria in the camps.

The Health Outbreak Response Manager (Epidemiology / Information Management) in collaboration with the Health Technical Advisor (TA) will coordinate the current Diphtheria outbreak response for Save the Children. This includes coordinating the information and data, including line lists and contact tracing. S/he will represent Save the Children in the District Core Committee of Diphteria Outbreak a Task Force led by WHO and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of the Government of Bangladesh. for the outbreak.

In addition, the Health HST will work on broader surveillance and early warning alert and response for notifiable diseases to ensure the proper tools and systems are in place to respond to future outbreaks, including cholera and measles as requested by Health TA.

Qualifications and experience

Essential

  • Applied epidemiology or public health professional with at least 3 years field/operational experience
  • Significant experience in building and managing health information systems in resource poor settings
  • Previous outbreak or health emergency response experience
  • Solid experience of managing and coordinating a team including building capacity
  • Solid experience of project management
  • Demonstrated monitoring and evaluation skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Politically and culturally sensitive with qualities of patience, tact and diplomacy
  • A high level of written and spoken English
  • The capacity and willingness to be extremely flexible and accommodating in difficult and sometimes insecure working circumstances.
  • Commitment to the aims and principles of SC. In particular, a good understanding of the SC mandate and child focus and an ability to ensure this continues to underpin our support.

Contract length: 3 months
