The Organisation
Plan International is an independent development and humanitarian organisation that advances children’s rights and equality for girls.
We believe in the power and potential of every child. But this is often suppressed by poverty, violence, exclusion and discrimination. And it’s girls who are most affected.
Working together with children, young people, our supporters and partners, we strive for a just world, tackling the root causes of the challenges facing girls and all vulnerable children.
We support children’s rights from birth until they reach adulthood. And we enable children to prepare for – and respond to – crises and adversity. We drive changes in practice and policy at local, national and global levels using our reach, experience and knowledge.
We have been building powerful partnerships for children for over 80 years, and are now active in more than 70 countries.
The Opportunity
It is a time of change and opportunity for Plan International Bangladesh. Are you our leader for the future?
All over the world girls are at risk because of their age and their gender. They are at risk of being denied the opportunity to access a secondary education, to gain the skills and training they need to work and to exercise control over their sexual and reproductive health. They are at risk of being married before the age of 18. They are at risk of violence and harassment from men and boys in every space they occupy, including their home, their school, their refugee camp and their city.
Are you passionate about girl’s rights and ending gender inequality?
Do you want to shape the direction of a programme that delivers impact at scale in a middle income country?
Are you ready to be a member of a country management team responsible for delivering an annual programme budget of over $30 million?
As Deputy Country Director, Programme Strategy you will help shape the future direction of Plan International Bangladesh. You will be responsible for providing strategic and high quality leadership towards the development of the new country strategy, developing programmes that will deliver impact at scale for children and young people, particularly girls, in a fast changing middle income country, where inequality remains a critical barrier to ending poverty.
The Individual
Above all, you must demonstrate a deep commitment to Plan International’s values of social justice. You will bring extensive strategic nous and the ability to effect change as well as a highly developed capacity to build collaboration and cooperation within Bangladesh and across the Plan Federation. You will have clear experience of driving innovation and adept at developing relationships with partners.
We are looking for an experienced and passionate development professional who brings a breadth of skills in strategy and programme development, programme quality and partnership building in middle-income countries. We believe that youth are the drivers of change, so experience working with young people to identify, design and deliver programmes is essential. Inequities are often driven by an imbalance of power, so you also need proven skills of working with power holders, including governments.
Plan International Bangladesh focal programme areas are: adolescent sexual and reproductive health, youth economic empowerment, active citizenship, education, protection and Disaster Risk Management and experience in at least one of these areas is essential.
