POSITION SUMMARY
Handicap International has an inclusion technical unit (ITU) that provides technical guidance to humanitarian actors with the aim of enhancing inclusiveness of their activities. The position will be focused on schools in camp and host communities. She/he will be responsible for a certain number of schools to ensure that inclusive education activities are strengthen in the school. Be in charge of the assessment, monitoring and reporting processes of the schools.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Data collection about inclusion needs in educational programs: organize and conduct interviews, focus groups, surveys, and questionnaires. **
Data management and analysis under the supervision of the Project Manager.
Organize, arrange, and conduct training and awareness-raising regarding inclusion including the physical, attitudinal, communication and institutional barriers preventing men, women, boys, and girls with disabilities and other at risk groups from participating meaningfully in educational activities.
Prepare work plans and periodic program reports.
Support the schools management staffs in preparing inclusive education plans
Build the capacities of the schools teachers on how to deal with children with special needs
Provide on-the-job support to the teachers on inclusive teachers' techniques
Support the schools' teachers in conducting assessment of the students with special needs, in preparing and following-up Individual Education plans for children with disabilities
Support the schools in establishing education corners for children with special needs
Assure the support, the coordination, the quality of work and reporting of the community volunteers
Report to the line-manager the activities in schools, in families, in the communities
Assure the identification and referral of children with disabilities in camp and host communities
Assure teachers training in Inclusive Education and all the others training / sensitization needs on the Education for everybody
Adherence to HI Code of Conduct, PSEA, and Child Safeguarding polices.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor of Social Science (BSS), Bachelor of Education, Bachelor of Science (BSc) or commensurate experience.
- · Experience implementing educational programs
- · 2-3 years experience in inclusive education in mainstreaming schools
- · Know Braille and or sign language would be an advantage
- · Experience in conducting on-the-job capacity building support to the teachers
- · Significant experience doing awareness raising and training
- · Computer knowledge (MS office package)
- · Excellent communication skills in both verbal and written Bangla and English
- · Knowledge of disability and development issues in Bangladesh
- · Ability to work under pressure and in a multicultural team environment
- · Availability to travel to remote areas and spend time at the field level
- · Ability to work both independently and within a team.
