Purpose of Assignment:

UNICEF Bangladesh, through effective support to country offices and strategic engagement with partners, contribute to winning support for the cause of children from decision makers and the wider public particularly on key priority issues in Bangladesh. This includes providing technical assistance, capacity building and coordination to enhance digital advocacy in the region.

In the past few years, UNICEF Bangladesh has achieved an unprecedented reach and engagement through its social media platforms with more than 5 million followers. Many of our audiences not only seek information but are willing to have important conversations on crucial issues concerning children's wellbeing and rights. Our strategic focus is to ensure greater understanding and participation and meaningful engagement with our online audiences such as young people, parents, political influencers across the region. This also provides us an opportunity to win our audiences support for the cause of children in Bangladesh.

The purpose of this consultancy is to find a bright, motivated social media and private sector support consultant for a 6-month period starting May 2019 to help us conceptualize, plan, execute, and monitor social media strategy in support of policy advocacy, resource mobilization and partnership building to further the UNICEF global mission and mandate. Under the supervision of Communication Specialist, the consultant will support the social media team’s efforts to efficiently conduct its strategy and initiatives. This consultancy will provide the successful candidate an exposure to the working environment of a multilateral organization and also a better understanding of UNICEF's mandate to safeguard the rights of every child, everywhere. The candidate will also support the Private Sector Fundraising and Engagement team, specifically working to support the Generation Unlimited execution strategy – an exciting new initiative which seeks to ensure creation of some 7.3 million additional opportunities on youth skills and employability by 2030 as well as supporting on processes which serve to keep our network of private sector donors updated and inform of their contributions.

Deliverables/Outputs:

  • Provide general assistance to the CAP Section’s digital advocacy initiative.
  • Contribute to achievement of processes to keep UNICEF Bangladesh’s network of private sector partners and donors updated through assistance in developing reports regarding project progress.
  • Support on the roll-out of the Generation Unlimited partnership plan to establish a diverse range of partnerships with the private sector which create opportunities for youth skills and employability and support on promotion of these partnerships through Social Media.
  • Provide assistance to the development of a social media private sector partnership approach to give recognition to UNICEF Bangladesh private sector partners
  • Contribute to the achievement of social media related targets for private sector partnerships as required.
  • Contribute to the development of a digital individual giving fundraising strategy to be rolled out across social media channels.
  • Education:

    University degree in Business, Journalism, Communication, Media, Fine Arts, English

    Knowledge/Expertise/Skills required:

  • At least 2 years of extensive experience in integrating social-media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Google, YouTube, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.)
  • Proven knowledge and experience using social media for development messaging as well as excellent online reader-friendly writing skills for digital platforms both in Bangla and English.
  • Experience in social mobilization and running advocacy campaigns through digital platforms is an asset.
  • Experience in mobilizing youth through campaigns
  • Experience in communications (writing, editing, event coverage, video and photograph captioning and uploading) is an asset.
  • High ethical standards and understanding of sensitivities relating to children is highly desirable.
