Type of Appointment : Special short-term graded, Six months with possibility of extension

Context:

Under the overall supervision of Head of Humanitarian Assistance and Operations in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh and direct supervision of the Data Analyst Coordinator (NPM), the successful candidate will be responsible for implementing and coordinating reporting and analysis activities, and the overall publications and editorial process of Need and Population Monitoring (NPM) information products.

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

  1. Draft and contribute to the development of all the required reports and information products of NPM, including, but not limited to, analytical and statistical reports, site profiles, maps and other relevant products.

  2. Report and analyse NPM data and provide feedback regarding any inconsistencies.

  3. Analyse collected data and information and map the identified conditions and needs in areas affected by displacements.

  4. Organize appropriate trainings for the data collection team on issues related to NPM reporting, including definitions, numbers, trends, impact on receiving populations, humanitarian concerns, and basic humanitarian needs.

  5. Support overall programme implementation and reporting. Track progress and check that deadlines are met.

  6. Research, analyse, draft and format internal and external programme reports and documents.

  7. Support the unit on survey design, assessment preparation, and data collection planning and monitoring.

  8. Contribute to the design of new research methodologies (qualitative and quantitative), data collection tools and publications.

  9. Liaise with relevant authorities, UN agencies, Non-Governmental Organisation (NGOs), Government counterparts, and other stakeholders on issues relevant to NPM implementation as required.

  10. Attend, on behalf of NPM, relevant internal and external meetings, including sectors coordination meetings.

  11. Work with the Information Management (IM) Officer in the development, adaptation, and revision of information management tools that meet partners’ and other humanitarian actors’ needs in relation to NPM implementation.

  12. Proofread and edit any NPM publication.

  13. Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

Education

• Master’s degree in Business Administration, International Relations, Political Science, Communications, Information Management, Computer Science or a related field from an accredited academic institution with two years of relevant professional experience; or

• University degree in the above fields with four years of relevant professional experience.

Experience

• Previous experience in reporting and data analysis, possibly in emergency contexts;

• Experience in data collection, research, and report writing;

• Experience working in international organizations and the humanitarian community;

• Experience in relevant issues such as migration, displacement, and humanitarian assistance;

• Numerical skills and experience in data analysis and data visualization;

• Experience writing technical requirements documents, translating/planning specifications to technical briefs for data capture/analysis, and compiling diverse datasets;

• Strong computer background, including experience with relational databases, Microsoft applications, spreadsheets, and word processing;

• Advance knowledge of Excel, Word, Adobe Suite.

Languages

IOM’s official languages are English, French and Spanish.

For this position, fluency in English is required (oral and written). Working knowledge of Bangla, French and/or Spanish is an advantage.

Other:

Internationally recruited professional staff are required to be mobile.
