About the job
The Shelter and Site Operations team will be responsible for supporting the Rohingya community to improve their living conditions by implementing improvements to shelters, household plots and access routes (constructing small bridges, paths, steps, small retention walls, drainage, etc.) The Shelter team will also be responsible for conducting a comprehensive assessment of shelter needs in the Kutupalong Makeshift camp and supporting the design and roll out of upgraded shelters for the community.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinate and manage work on site and daily report to the Manager;
- Quality control of all DRC shelter/site operations activities in the camp;
- Contribute to the development of camp shelter strategies and participate in the development of relevant community construction projects;
- Contribute to development of shelter programme through assessment and understanding of the upgrade options as defined through the shelter working group and Rohingya community
- Upgrading of emergency shelters
Implement technical direction and ensure high technical quality of projects;
Liaise and collaborate with relevant local authorities and other key stakeholders;
Provide technical specifications and BoQ as required;
Provide regular progress reports to manager;
Input to project budget in cooperation with the Shelter or Site Operations Manager.
Mentor and ensure capacity building of project staff and transfer key skills
Assist with reporting (e.g. Government required reports);
About you
Essential Qualifications
- Engineering or construction experience/qualifications
- Working knowledge in the humanitarian/NGO field
- Fluent Bengali and English
- Advantage: fluent Chittagonian and/or Rohingya;
