ABOUT THE MISSION

SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL (SI) opened its mission in Bangladesh at the end of 2007, following cyclone SIDR.

SI’s intervention and strategy in Bangladesh is to address primary needs of crisis affected people in terms of food security, livelihood, disaster risk reduction (DRR), water, hygiene and sanitation (WASH) and shelter, by making use of an integrated disaster risk reduction approach and by taking into account the effects of climate change, whilst working in parallel on mid-long term resilience strategies.

ABOUT THE JOB

The Deputy Field Coordinator (DFCO) is in charge of the programs in Cox’s Bazar. Under the direct supervision of the Field Coordinator, he develops, follows up programs in Teknaf. He ensures the internal coherence between all program activities and monitors both the current programs and the development of new projects. The DFC oversees the programs department made of 4 teams: WASH, Food Security & Livelihoods, Emergency, M&E through the direct management of Program Managers. He also supports the Field Coordinator in his representing tasks in external meetings under FC delegation.

The main challenges of the position are:

  • To reinforce the capacities of the Program Manager
  • To consolidate SI as key RRM actor in Cox’s Bazar
  • To have a better understanding and of humanitarian situation in Cox’s Bazar
  • To reinforce operational partnerships with local NGOs and develop their capacity which is still low, with high field staff turn-over.

YOUR PROFILE

Education: Minimum Masters’ degree or equivalent in agronomy, WASH/rural hydraulic, generalist with previous experiences in WASH or Food Security Livelihood projects.

Experience:

  • 3 years of professional experience, including a minimum of 2 years in the humanitarian environment, with a positive experience in project implementation and team management
  • Proven experience in conflict/post-conflict contexts and insecure environments
  • Proven experience in emergency intervention
  • Proven experience managing team notably in remote control
  • Previous experience in Food Security Livelihood and Wash activities in developing countries
  • Previous experience of project management in NGO / humanitarian fields
  • Previous experience in report and proposal writing
  • Experience of team management
  • Experience of capacity building
  • Experience in working with local partners would be an asset
  • Previous experience with SI would be an asset

Technical skills and knowledge:

  • Knowledge of FSL activities
  • Knowledge of WASH activities is an asset
  • Knowledge of Emergency activities
  • Strong knowledge of project cycle management
  • Strong knowledge of Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning
  • Knowledge of HR, budget and logistics management
  • Knowledge of Solidarités International rules, tools and procedures would be an asset

Transferable skills:

  • Excellent management skills
  • Good analytical and writing/editing skills

  • Good training skills
  • Capacity to work under pressure

Language:

SI WILL OFFER YOU ...

A salaried post: according to experience from 2420 euros gross per month, (2200 euros base salary + 1410% annual leave allowance paid monthly) +100€/year of humanitarian experience at the same position +50€/year of experience at a position which has helped to reach the current level + a monthly Per Diem of 350 US dollars.

Social and medical cover: Expatriates benefit from an insurance package which reimburses all healthcare expenses (including medical and surgical expenses, dental care and ophthalmological expenses, repatriation) and a welfare system including war risks. Essential vaccination and antimalarial treatment costs are refunded.

Vacation: During the assignment, a system of alternation between work and time off is implemented at the rate of one break every three months. For a one-year assignment, the expatriate will have a 7-day break during the 3rd and the 9th month (with 500 euros allocated by Solidarités). He or she will also be entitled to go back to his or her home country for a 14-day period after six months spent on the mission (Solidarités will cover travel costs)
